Have you set goals yet for 2017? Plenty of time for that, you say? I’ll get to it, you think? All in good time, you assert. Well, maybe. Or maybe not.
I was reminded today that time is one thing we can never take for granted. You see, this morning started out like every other morning: full of possibility and adventure. In this case it was a horsey adventure, as I hit the road with a friend who was visiting from interstate, who had driven all day yesterday to come meet a magnificent young Lusitano colt nearby that just may be her true heart horse.
After discovering the breed while holidaying in Portugal, my friend has been searching for more than three years for “the one” of her own. It would seem it was love at first sight, though only time will tell if this little fella lives up to expectations.
It should have been a memorable and joyous occasion for my friend, a moment of anticipation finally coming to fruition, but the mood was halted abruptly by the dog bark of her ring tone.
Minutes after her greatest goal had become reality, she would learn her mum was being rushed to hospital by ambulance having suffered a heart attack. She learned that much by phone, though it would take another hour to find out which hospital she’d been taken to and what her condition was (thanks to our amazing Australian healthcare system her mum has already been operated on and is now in recovery).
So here’s the thing. Life is unpredictable. It’s fragile. You’re not invincible. And it won’t wait for you.
Set some goals. Get real about what you want to achieve in 2017. And get on with it.
Because you really do never know when it will be too late.
Yours with humility and a renewed sense of urgency,
